Adjust Your Mental Diet: Healthy Food for Your Thought Life
This literally says the foundation to designing your best life is to feed the mind on spiritual food.
During my recent teleseminar I shared some interesting truths concerning the mind and I will
share some of them with you.

I believe the majority of people don’t have a wealth problem or social and relational problem or
physical or genetic problem or a spiritual, personal or professional problem or an identity or
independence problem. They have a mind or mental problem. It was the ancient King Solomon
who sums this up when he said, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” (See Proverbs 23:7). Now
I’m sure you’ve heard that before. If that hasn’t nudged you on to change what you feed your
mind or think about then you could grow to be habitual at thinking wrong.

You may attribute external factors as the cause of an inability to move forward or experience a
level of life success. But if you carefully examine the causes, you may find that it’s your mindset
creating the roadblocks. Napoleon Hill who authored the classic,
Think and Grow Rich, once
said, “There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge; both poverty and
riches are the offspring of thought.” Thoughts can come into your mind from two different
sources. What I want to say is the thoughts that come into your mind do not always originate in
your mind. The devil puts many thoughts into your mind from the outside of you. That’s one
source. Then, of course, thoughts from God come from within you. They come through your
spirit into your mind. So then you must be renewed in the spirit of your mind (Ephesians 4:23).

Like the body, the mind must be feed good nutrition to maintain a healthy attitude and overall
well-being. What your mind takes in—what you listen to, what you read, your circle of influence,
the music you listen to and the movies you watch—are part of your mental diet. God’s word has
every delectable nugget you’ll ever need for your mental nourishment enriching every aspect of
your personal and professional life.

Feeding the spirit of your mind with spiritual food from God’s word will help you design a
rewarding life in every aspect including these:

  • confidently taking control over depression, anger, doubt, low self-esteem and fear
  • confidently rising above circumstances in the knowledge of your identity in Christ
  • confidently gaining peace and sustainable joy
  • confidently renewing your mind to experience victory
  • confidently gaining a life of expectancy

Here’s your action step:

Get a journal. Write your overall vision for your life. Then break it down into categories: your
spiritual vision, your personal vision, your professional vision and your family and household
vision. Locate the corresponding faith principle in scripture for each vision to anchor and
nourish your mind. Find the corresponding pictures of your visions and paste them in your
journal. Give yourself specific times
each day to review them.

The other day I was on my way to the hair salon and wanted a quick snack so I made a brief dash
into Whole Foods. Before I could find my way to the sandwiches I was greeted by several team
members stationed in different departments who offered delectable samples that I couldn’t refuse.
After this I no longer desired to find the sandwiches. My hunger had been quenched.

Feeding the body fresh, wholesome nutritious foods is essential for lifelong health. For years my
husband and I curtailed certain food groups and purposed to closely monitor what we put into our
bodies and on our skin. The Lord spoke to me about this.

I simply enjoy every shopping visit to my
local Whole Foods Market. I am passionate
about seeking out the freshest, most
healthful, minimally processed products
available. I can always find natural and
organic products there because they believe
that food, in its purest state—unadulterated
by artificial additives, sweeteners, colorings,
and preservatives—is the best tasting and
most nutritious food available. Enjoying the
highest quality foods at the most
competitive prices possible and not
compromising quality in nutrition,
freshness, appearance and taste is a win-win.
He said, “My people change the way they eat after
they become ill but I want them to change the way
they eat so won’t become ill.” Yes I still cheat
sometimes, but I can never forget how I was
arrested by what God said.

In thinking on this I suppose many people
nowadays extend care of their food intake. As I
left Whole Foods and was driving onto the hair
salon, I began to wonder how many people are
unwaveringly feeding their minds and spirits to
the extent they feed their bodies. God has again
spoken in His word at Romans 12:2 to be
transformed by the renewing of your mind.
